Day 437 - Dad, April & Lulu

I slept late again. I'm feeling quite rubbish, actually. My legs are achy at night & I still feel REALLY tired. I phoned Dad & he was nearly in the city, so I went out to see if my car would start. Of course Contemplate started! I let her warm up for awhile & loaded 6 boxes in the car. I got myself ready & headed to town. I unloaded the boxes at M&D2's & said a quick hello. I motored over to Chili's & found the only cowboy hat in the joint.

We had a great visit. April is off to Mexico soon & just bought a MacBook Air. I'm only a slight shade of green! I offered advice on backing up her iBooks when she gets the new machine. I told Dad about the MagicJack. They are trying to remember the 'My Passport' suggestion & the MagicJack. April said it would end up MagicPort & PassJack! We had a good laugh!

We visited for a few hours before they had to go. It was already dark out & they wanted to get home before midnight. I went to Lulu to see if they had a running skirt in my size. I bought one the other day, but it was a little too small. I'm optimistic, but I've already had one miracle. Let's not get greedy! Luckily they had my size. I was trying to decide on a tank to match when I asked the clerk's opinion. She came over & helped me decide. While we were talking, she commented on my hair. She liked the colour. I was wearing the Gisele wig today. I proceeded to tell her about the chemo, the hair loss, when I was healthy, my future plans to get healthy, etc, etc. She suddenly disappeared & said she'd be right back. I wandered around a little, picked out a top to try on & when I walked over to her, she said, 'Pick a mat that you like. You can pick any of these colours. I'm giving you one. And you can have 5 yoga class passes.' I'm sure my jaw hit the floor! Really! Wow! She wanted to encourage me to get health & start doing some yoga again. Never in my life! I've always said, 'I'm the luckiest person I know.' And I think I just reinforced that belief! Wow! Thanks Lululemon! I can't wait to get started now!

I went back to M&D2's after that & shared my exciting news with them. I tried some of Mom2's fantastic soup, talked about cruising & then I had to boogie home. It was already 2100! Where did the time go? I was exhausted (still) & wanted to go to bed NOW!

When I got home, Mom had just arrived & was unloading her car. Thankfully she didn't go into cardiac arrest when she saw the state of the house. I'm making progress! Really I am! We're back in the city tomorrow for an eye appointment for her. She's having laser surgery & has her pupil dilation exam tomorrow. I'll drive her home afterwards.

Only a few more sleeps until Cuba! I can hardly wait! The only thing I've packed so far is my camera bag! Priorities! Ha ha!

Sleep well & see you tomorrow! Oh! I have 19 followers now! I'm pretty excited about that! I'm pretty excited about most things, but that really makes my day!

Day 347 - The Kettle & The Power Outage

I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but my Mother is hard of hearing. This morning I woke up to the sound of the kettle whistling. (Our electric kettle broke & we haven't replaced it yet, so in the meantime, we're using an old school one that whistles on the stovetop when it's boiling) The kettle whistled for, I kid you not, 30 minutes. Yes, half an hour. I'm at one end of the house with the door closed, in peaceful slumber. I hear it right away - wide awake. How can you NOT hear it for 30 minutes?!?!

After that lovely start to the day, I finally attempted to start catching up on the blog. Jaco & I sit in bed like a cute married couple, with our matching Macs & type & surf away. Aren't we cute? :oP

We started watching some of The Office in the afternoon, with the intention of not watching any in the evening & actually going to bed early for once. We were in the middle of an episode when the power went off. Hmpf. Oh well. Guess we'll take the dogs for a walk. Jaco was a bit concerned about why the power was off, but I told him not to worry. Chances were someone severed the power line, a bird landed on the wire, a tree... it could be anything. I reassured him that it would be up & running in no time.

We walked the dogs to the highway & back & threw the ball for Valentina. When we got back to the house, Mom asked us if we would give her a hand. Apparently Jim, the fellow who owns the ranch & is 86 years old, had switched off the power after he got tangled up in the wires & he needed our help to climb up a ladder & untangle the wires. Rrrrright.

We walked down to investigate. Oh my. He was trying to do something with his septic tank in his yard with the Farmhand. (A Farmhand is kind of like an old tractor that has a lift on the front end & 'claws' for picking up bales, etc.) When he backed into his yard the 'claws' were lowered. When he was finished in the yard, he drove out, not realizing the 'claws' were up. He somehow managed to entangle the power lines, snap two wires, pull over a power pole, knock the line off the insulator on his house & in all of that, he didn't electrocute himself.

Needless to say, we were NOT touching a single wire. He called his friend, who is quite handy, but now needs a walker to get around, to come out & help him with the wires. Supposedly they taped the wires back together & they are on the ground now. Looks like we won't be walking the dogs to the barn anytime soon!

In all of this, we found it quite humorous. Nobody got hurt, miraculously, and thinking about the entire situation, that in itself is funny. There were cables all over the place & it was CLEARLY NOT a job for amateurs! Jim was too 'thrifty' to call the power company to come & fix it. Thankfully our power is back on! When we got back to the house, Jim had left us a phone message. I've pieced it together with the photos. In case you can't understand him, he's saying: "Jim calling. I had to shut the power off." No doubt!

Have a safe night!

Just in case you couldn't see the wires clearly on the video...

Jaco assesses the damage
The cable comes from the barn to the pole on the ground to the Farmhand to the house to the main pole
 Pole on the ground!
Wire from the barn to the pole
From the pole to the Farmhand
Exposed wires!
From the house to the Farmhand
 WAY too many cables!
Wrapped around the Farmhand & then some!

Day 155 - Wrong Side of the Bed.

Today was just one of those days where I should have stayed in bed. I woke up with a sore throat & a killer headache. The headache is still here, despite several attempts to eliminate it.

It didn't seem to matter what I tried to do, it fell apart. I'd pick one thing up & three things would fall. This was just not my day.

I also, ahem, did my first coffee enema. Finally. It wasn't so bad. No, it wasn't French Vanilla! :o) I also used my neti pot for the first time today too. It was a really weird feeling. Yes, more weird than the enema. It was certainly a strong sensation of 'water up my nose'! The funniest part was an hour later, I would bend over & there would still be water running out of my nose!

I pulled things out of the closets & did my best to start the packing routine. I was grumbling to a friend about the difficulties of trying to pack for Mexico, the Caribbean, Alaska & a dog in only three bags. She said if I was looking for pity, I wouldn't get it from her, seeing as I was lucky enough to be headed to all those places! Okay, fair enough!

I spoke to a fellow friend who is battling cancer & I'm pleased to say that Joanne, many of you have prayed for her, is doing great! She sounds like she's found a routine that is working for her! That is fantastic news, considering she's already 2 months past her 'deadline' (pun intended!) & she's doing fantastic!

Anyhow, short post for today... I'm beat & my head is still pounding! See you tomorrow!
